Frequently Asked Questions
A Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) is a person or firm that is engaged in the business of providing advice to others and issues reports or analyses regarding securities for compensation. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires that RIAs uphold a fiduciary duty to its advisory clients, meaning the RIA and the individuals who offer investment management and advisory services on its behalf must act in the best interests of each client while providing these advisory services. The confidence and trust placed in the RIA and the individuals serving clients are something we value and endeavor to protect. As the first word of their title indicates, RIAs are required to register either with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or state securities administrators.
Over the past five years we have been operating as a fiduciary with our wealth management and planning services and we have witnessed a transformation in our team as our scope and size has continued to grow. We have seen lives changed via our planning processes and best practices implemented via our wealth management philosophies. And now, we know what got us here will not get us where we aspire to be; which is staying ahead of the curve in our curating of knowledge, use of technology and expansion of vendor offerings. Each of which helps bring value to you and that is why we are making the transition. This platform will allow us to better serve you.
Formally Gulf Coast Financial Consultants, we were a part of the core group of 12 throughout the United States that were originally invited to join the creation of the Thrivent Advisor Network (TAN). This started in October of 2016 and in 2019 TAN was launched with three teams transitioning into the RIA platform. Now in 2020, as Thrivent enters a new horizon with a rebranding of its own, we are embarking on a new journey too. Hence the newly launched Awaken Wealth Partners and the completion of the four year journey that has brought us here to the TAN transition.
Yes. Awaken Wealth Partners is joining the Thrivent Advisor Network (TAN), a registered investment adviser (RIA) and a part of Thrivent.
Clients will be signing transition paperwork in June and July of 2020. The transition to TAN will occur at the end of July 2020.
None of your current Thrivent policies or other policies acquired while with Thrivent in the past will change. What will change is our newly formed custodial relationship with Fidelity® as well as our technology stack that will enhance our clients experience. The transition will involve the signing of pre-populated documents that will be clearly marked with “sign here” tabs to make the process as simple as possible. We will coordinate with local clients to have the paperwork signed in one of three locations in the Houston area. For our out-of-town clients, we will overnight your documents to you and also provide pre-postage paid overnight envelopes to return your documents to us.
Absolutely. We are making this transition so we can improve upon our valued wealth management and planning services. Plus, we are increasing our client offerings with the addition of new services. We are not making any portfolio changes with the platform transition.
